Anime Limited to release Durarara!! in the UK!

Glasgow, UK September 6, 2013 -  Anime Limited, the Glasgow-based anime licensing company and parent company of All the Anime, are pleased to announce the release of the popular supernatural anime series Durarara!! on Blu-ray and DVD for the UK.

When a young boy named Mikado moves to the big city to live with his friend Masaomi, who promptly warns him who and where to avoid in Ikebukuro - including the mysterious gang called ‘The Dollars’. On his first day in Ikebukuro, Mikado meets an urban legend - the mysterious ‘Black Rider’, an Irish dullahan Celty Sturluson. What follows is a series of stories, characters and adventures that all intersect unfolding a wider ranging story arc.

Originally aired in early 2010, this supernatural thriller has become a popular and much loved anime series. The theme and the overall story quality of the series has led to fan and critical acclaim. Called ‘strangely addictive’ and ‘very highly recommended’ by Twitch Film, Durarara!! makes a great addition to the Anime Limited catalogue. Durarara!! will be released on two hybrid Blu-ray and DVD sets will be released in the first quarter of 2014.

Andrew Partridge, founder and president of Anime Limited says: ‘We’re very excited to be able to bring Durarara!! to the UK on Blu-ray and DVD. It’s a personal favourite of ours here at HQ so it’s great to add it to our growing catalogue!’

- To be at the bottom of the new titles list, you just had to sell over 135 units.
- Left out this month are Naruto Shippuden Movie Trilogy and EF - Tale of Memories due to lower sales, RahXephon and Lady Death due to their release dates they've not started tracking yet so they'll be listed next month.

Interesting things to note this month:

- Top seller for both charts sold over 1,200 units this month, not the highest it's ever been but certainly not the lowest!

- Lowest seller for Overall this month sold over 550 units, while for July the lowest in the top 10 was over 250 units.

- Out of chart due to lower numbers was Tiger & Bunny Part 3 (not by much between it and #10), Iria Collection, Bakemonogatari Pt 1 and the Nightwalker Collection.

- [edit] It's been pointed out to us that both Grave of the Fireflies and Kiki's Delivery Service had BD releases this month - which we'd usually have tracked but as no new catalogue number is showing it's hard to tell what sales were BD and what were DVD there.  If we take their numbers at face value as 100% BD though (not an unreasonable assumption) this would place them in #3 and #4.  Due to ambiguity we've  opted to keep them clear in this case but are open to change that in future if people think there's a better way to manage them!

- Keep in mind Bakemonogatari had to recall all its Pt 1 stock though leading to lower than expected sales numbers, it's not necessarily a reflection of the title or fan interest in it!

- Unlike last month there is no huge unit divide between places in the overall charts - it's a pretty solid gradient for how many sold.

- ...however there's still a solid 400 unit difference between #2 and #3 for the new releases! Regular gradient decline in sales from there downwards though!

Hope this has intrigued folks - anything catch your eye there for the bestselling anime of July 2013?  We'll be back with some more blog posts a bit later this month too so stay tuned!

JUNE SALES

With Kerry away I figured I'd shuffle out of the dark warren that is the licensing world to update people on sales for the last month across the UK in anime!

Some interesting points here and a few explanations beneath - for now though here are the top sellers:

TOP SELLERS - OVERALL
Position Title                                                 Label
1 HIGH SCHOOL OF THE DEAD - COMPLETE MANGA UK
2 ONE PIECE - COLLECTION 1 MANGA UK
3 MY NEIGHBOUR TOTORO STUDIOCANAL
4 NARUTO SHIPPUDEN - BOX SET 13 MANGA UK
5 THE GIRL WHO LEAPT THROUGH TIME MANGA UK
6 POKEMON 4EVER STUDIOCANAL
7 HELLSING - ULTIMATE - VOL 5-8 MANGA UK
8 NINJA SCROLL MANGA UK
9 SPIRITED AWAY STUDIOCANAL
10 HOWL'S MOVING CASTLE STUDIOCANAL
TOP SELLERS - NEW RELEASES
Position Title Label
1 HIGH SCHOOL OF THE DEAD - COMPLETE MANGA UK
2 ONE PIECE - COLLECTION 1 MANGA UK
3 NARUTO SHIPPUDEN - BOX SET 13 MANGA UK
4 BLOOD C - THE COMPLETE SERIES MANGA UK
5 NARUTO SHIPPUDEN - COMPLETE SEASON 3 MANGA UK
6 KIDS ON THE SLOPE - COMPLETE COLLECTION MVM
7 KENICHI - THE MIGHTIEST DISCIPLE - PT 1 MANGA UK
8 WAITING IN THE SUMMER: SERIES COLLECTION MVM
9 FULLMETAL ALCHEMIST - BROTHERHOOD - 1 MANGA UK
10 LAST EXILE - COMPLETE SEASON 1 MANGA UK

Notes of interest:

- The reason One Piece AND High School of the Dead did not show initially is they came out at the end of May and the first few days of June formed the last part of that month.  We've included them as new releases here now and will follow this pattern in future to be fure no titles are missed out.

- To be the top seller this month for overall, you had to sell over 2,000 copies - although we would imagine at £10.01 a set on Amazon there's not much you can go wrong with there!

- Scarily, the number of the beast was required for the lowest overall seller this month!

- Last Exile sold just under 200 copies to reach the bottom of the chart this month for top 10.

- Bakemonogatari sold just under Last Exile, cutting it from the chart sadly - this is likely due to the disc recalls and is not really a reflection of the sales of the title honestly.  It may well correct itself in coming months, we hope so anyway!

- Shiki also did not rate, on account of selling not as many as even Bakemonogatari sadly!

- There's a huge gap between the top 3 sellers for new releases and the fourth - easily a drop of almost 600 units!

- Interestingly, One Piece Box 1's sales for its first month are better than the latest iterations of Bleach - however they are only about 60% of what Dragonball Z Box 1 took in for month 1 and basically comparable with box 13 of Naruto Shippuden (hint - Shippuden is on its 13th box!)  This doesn't bode horribly for the franchise, but it certainly shows that Luffy and the crew have a lot of catching up to do!

Hopefully an interesting month of information for folk, catch up with everyone again soon!
