Revolutionary Girl Utena comes to Blu-ray starting in July!

It’s been a long time since we first announced we’d be releasing the classic series, Revolutionary Girl Utena, on Blu-ray in the UK. As has been the case some titles in our catalogue, it can far longer than anticipated before we’re able to spill the beans on when you’ll be able add said title to your collection. But the time has finally come to tell you what we have planned for this classic series!
We’re going into greater detail in this blog post below, but to give you the cliff notes, you’ll be able to add the series to your Blu-ray collection starting with Part 1 on 13th July.
And if that wasn’t enough we’re also going to be having a special very limited bonus exclusively at our AllTheAnime.com online shop! Pre-orders for Part 1 and a special complete series bundle opportunity begin at our shop begin tomorrow (Friday 22nd May).

The Legendary Shojo Anime Series Comes to Blu-ray!
Synopsis: ‘’Never lose that strength or nobility, even when you grow up.’’ When Utena was just a child and in the depths of sorrow, she found salvation in those words. They were the words of a prince, who wrapped her in his rose-scented embrace and bestowed upon her both a ring and the promise that it would lead her to him again. She never forgot the encounter. In fact, she was so impressed that she aspired to be like the prince and also help those in need.
Now a spirited teenager, Utena attends the prestigious Ohtori Academy. However, her strong sense of chivalry soon places her at odds with the school’s student council and thrusts her into a series of mysterious and dangerous duels against its members.

WHAT DO YOU HAVE PLANNED FOR THE SERIES?
To begin with, the series will be getting released over 3 Collector’s Edition Blu-ray sets total. Each volume encompassing one particular arc of the series. All three parts will be getting released trade wide; so they’re not exclusive to any on retailer.

Part 1 will all come packed in a rigid case, depicting some of the fantastic artwork on each side of the case. Inside you’ll get the first 12 episodes of the series, known as “The Student Council Arc”, over three Blu-ray discs stores inside an amaray case. Additionally you’ll also find a poster and 5 art cards, each depicting some more of the fantastic art created for the series.

On the discs themselves, all 12 episodes will have viewing options in both English (2.0) and original Japanese (5.1 & 2.0) with English subtitles. On-disc extras being textless versions of the Opening and Ending title sequences, Japanese commercials and the Rondo – Revolution Music Video.
So with that in mind, let’s take a look at the visual for Part 1 –
BUT, I mentioned there would be a bonus for limited time opportunity exclusively for our AllTheAnime.com online shop customers! (And to be fair you’ve probably noticed it in the image above already.) We’re delighted to say that (while stock lasts) with this Part 1 Blu-ray Collector’s Edition set there will be an additional box included that will hold all three parts of the series!

Worth noting it’s difficult to show in this type of visual, but the black logo you see on the box will utilise a special spot-uv finish, so it will pop out in the light! It’s going to looking amazing.
NOTE – Also, if you think the orientation of the logo on the spine is unusual, don’t worry, it’ll be the correct way around for the final retail product

Keeping in theme with the first part, Part 2 will come packed in a rigid case. Inside that you’ll find an amaray case containing episodes 13-24 of the series, known as “The Black Rose Saga”, withEnglish (2.0) and original Japanese (5.1 & 2.0) with English subtitles viewing options.
Also inside the rigid case will be a poster (34x40cm) and 5 art cards depicting more of the fantastic art created for the series.

And we come to the third and final volume of our releases. Packaging wise, keeping in the same theme as with the first two part the contents will come packed in a rigid case displaying some of the art on either side of. Inside the rigid case there will be an amaray case holding the four Blu-ray discs – Did I say 4? Yes I did! More on that in a moment – plus a landscape poster (34x40cm) and 5 artcards showing more of the great art of the series

I mentioned there would be four Blu-ray discs included in this Part 3 set.
The reason for that is as well as containing the the remaining episodes of the series – episodes 25-39, also known as “The Apocalypse Saga”, with bothEnglish (2.0) and original Japanese (5.1 & 2.0) with English subtitles viewing options over three of the discs.
On-disc extra across these three discs are Interviews with Kunihiko Ikuhara (continuing from ones included with Part 2), Animated Art Board: Part 2 gallery, Interviews with Cast & Crew: Kunihiko Ikuhara, Tomoko Kawakami (Japanese voice of Utena), Yuriko Fuchizaki (Japanese voice of Anthy Himemiya), Rozanne Beck, Mandy Bonhomme (English voice of Jury Arisugawa), Carol Jacobanis (English voice of Akio), Leah Applebaum (English voice of Nanami), Jimmy Zoppi (Englihs voice of Miki), Josh Mosby (English voice of Akio) and Sharon Becker.
Plus textless closing title sequences #2-#4, Dueling Theme Karaoke, Japanese commercials, and Japanese staff commentaries on episodes 27, 38 & 39 featuring director Kunihiko Ikuhara and the original manga artist, Chiho Saito!
The fourth disc in the set will the Revolutionary Girl Utena Movie! On the disc will be the film with bothEnglish (2.0) and original Japanese (5.1 & 2.0) with English subtitles viewing options.
Additionally there will also be a director’s commentary of the film, a Behind the Scenes featurette on the recording of the English dub, and trailers for the film!
