WHAT DOES THE COLLECTOR’S EDITION HAVE THAT THE REGULAR DOESN’T?

– Collector’s packaging (think Cowboy Bebop sized box)
– 200 page art booklet with a broad set of design works from the show.  We’ll post some previews soon!

WHY A STANDARD EDITION BLU-RAY?

As we’ve always stated – we do understand that not everyone wants a Collector’s Edition set and usually what we do is release one as soon as we can (which is usually about 17-18 months after broadcast ends).  This means we can release a Collector’s Edition sooner to fill the void that normally piracy or EST only would fill in the meantime but we’re not usually physically able to release any sooner due to contractual or approvals holdbacks.

That said – we were faced with a real opportunity here!  The Collector’s Edition is on target for it’s November release but stock would not be ready in time for London Comic Con in October, where Space Dandy’s director (Shinichiro Watanabe) is attending.  So we pitched a regular edition to the licensors for pre-sale at MCM London in October, to be followed by a general release in January.

Being the Dandy guys and gals they are, the licensor agreed!  So the standard edition will hit main retail on January 12th but in honour of Shinichiro Watanabe coming to visit MCM London Comic Con – I’m pleased to say we’ll have advanced copies on sale at MCM Comic Con London and a very limited time on the All the Anime shop as alas we won’t have finished stock of the Collector’s edition in time for MCM.

WHICH EDITION FOR ME?

If you’re just curious about Dandy but really don’t want to fork out for a book you may have no interest in – then the regular edition is totally for you!  However if you’ve watched Dandy on simulcast (or after simulcast as it’s soon to be available on at least one more platform) then you’ll know this is a special show!
