[UNBOXING] The Dragon Dentist

Recently we’ve had the pleasure of releasing The Dragon Dentist on Blu-ray and DVD in the form of a Collector’s Edition set. This title is the first television anime project produced by Studio Khara.

The studio founded by Hideki Anno (creator of Neon Genesis Evangelion) was behind the Japan Anima(tor) Expo online short film project that saw the world exposed to a number of promising young talents and unique works. One of the works as part of the Japan Anima(tor) expo project was The Dragon Dentist. A project that was later expanded into a 2-part special feature.

Synopsis: What do you find between a Dragon’s Teeth?

Going into war against a dragon takes incredible courage, but even that danger pales in comparison to the hazards of young Nonoko’s job. As a Dragon Dentist, she’s charged with venturing into the jaws of the country’s dragon protector to keep its pearly canines free of plaque, decay, and other debris.

One day, Nonoko discovers an unconscious soldier between her dragon’s teeth instead of a cavity, and she finds herself caught up in a series of events that have been foretold to bring disaster to her people!

Get ready for an incredible brush with destiny that leads two young people through the mouth of hell and towards certain doom as the creators of the new EVANGELION feature films unleash an epic unlike anything you’ve seen before in THE DRAGON DENTIST!

WHAT WAS PLANNED FOR THIS RELEASE?

This Ltd Collector’s Edition Blu-ray set would include the 2-episodes (roughly 45 mins each) of The Dragon Dentist on both Blu-ray and DVD. The discs would be house inside a folding digipack which would itself be stored inside a rigid case. Additionally in the rigid case there would be a poster of the main key visual of the project, and a 28-page booklet.

The booklet will bring you artwork and information on a variety of characters you’ll encounter while watching it. The section focusing on the world of The Dragon Dentist provides you with some background information on various elements you’ll encounter. Then we have an interview with director Kazuya Tsurumaki as well as comments Otaro Maijo (Original Story/Screenplay) and Hideaki Anno (Production Supervisor, Director of audiography, founder of Studio Khara.)
