Anime films coming to VICELAND

Following on from the news that the VICELAND TV channel (Sky Channel 153 & NOW TV) would be screening the likes of Cowboy Bebop, Tokyo Ghoul and Eureka Seven we’re delighted to announce that more anime will be airing on their station starting this month in form of movie screenings! Yes anime movies are coming to VICELAND! Here’s what you can expect to be broadcast during the month of September.

NOTE: All anime shown on VICELAND will be shown with English language audio unless otherwise noted.


Patema Inverted

UK TV Premiere date: Tuesday 12 September @ 9pm on VICELAND

Synopsis: “Patema has lived her whole life underground. Following a catastrophic attempt to harness alternative power sources, her community were driven to settle in a dark, cramped network of tunnels below ground. She roams them by torchlight, dreaming of adventures on the surface. 

Age does not fit in comfortably in school or society as a whole. The world he lives in is known as ‘Aiga’, controlled by the tyrant Izamura’s family for generations. 

Together – the pair are about to be pulled into something much bigger that will turn their worlds upside-down!

A Letter To Momo

UK TV Premiere date: Tuesday 19th September @ 9pm on VICELAND

Synopsis: “The last time Momo saw her father, they had a fight. Now all she has left to remember him by is an incomplete letter penned with the words “Dear Momo,” but nothing more. Moving with her mother to the remote Japanese island of Shio, Momo soon discovers three Yokai living in her attic, a trio of mischievous spirit creatures that only she can see and who create mayhem in the tiny seaside community as she tries desperately to keep them hidden. But these funny monsters have a serious side and may hold the key to helping Momo discover what her father had been trying to tell her.”

PERFECT BLUE

VICELAND Channel Premiere Date: Tuesday 26th September @ 10pm

As part of the 20th Anniversary of the film celebrations we’re having that includes the opportunity to catch the film in cinemas on 31st October, Perfect Blue will be getting screened on VICELAND!

Synopsis: “Directed by the late Satoshi Kon and critically acclaimed as one of the finest examples of an animated thriller, Perfect Blue will leave you shocked and more than a little spooked.

Leaving the world of J-pop behind her, Mima Kirigoe begins life as an actress on a crime drama show called Double Blind. When offered a lead role in the show as a rape victim, Mima accepts the role despite reservations from her manager. However, the backlash from fans over her career change and a strange website called ‘Mima’s Room’ written by a fake Mima begin to worry her. When a stalker appears and people involved in Double Blind begin turning up dead and all the evidence pointing to her, Mima is thrown into a state of confusion, madness and paranoia

Worth noting that these are the premiere dates we’ve highlighted on the channel, but be sure to keep checking your Sky Guide to see other times you’ll be able to catch the films as well.

After the wonderful response there has been to the anime broadcast on VICELAND so far we couldn’t be happier that these films will be getting aired on UK television! We’ll say right now that there are already more things in the works when it comes to anime being shown on VICELAND. So probably expect more news relating to this in the coming weeks.
