The Summer of Gundam begins here!

June 21, 2019 · 5 comments

We know a lot of you have been patiently waiting for news on upcoming releases of titles from the Mobile Suit Gundam franchise, and just a few weeks ago at MCM London Comic Con we revealed to attendees some details of what was in the works as Gundam celebrates its 40th Anniversary. But today we’re here to give you a rundown on what you can expect for the next few months specifically when it comes to Gundam titles… in some cases with some additional information to throw out there too! If you’re really impatient, then we’ve even just opened up pre-orders on a number of titles – you can find the quick and easy buy links at the bottom of this post. But there’s plenty of time to get to that, and we have a lot to share, so why not relax and make your way through this plethora of Gundam news before you reach for your wallet?

All set, suited up and get ready for a giant info dump on what’s coming by way of Gundam releases? Well before we get to that, we mentioned the Gundam 40th Anniversary celebrations, and on that note there’s something cool happening in August you should be aware of first…

GUNDAM @ TF NATION IN AUGUST!

4de76455-561b-42da-a02b-8eb8d6aa80beFrom 16th-18th August 2019, the annual TF Nation event once again takes over the Hilton Birmingham Metropole Hotel. This might be a Transformers event, but that doesn’t mean that Gundam can’t join in the fun, especially when it’s celebrating its 40th Anniversary! So we’ve teamed up with our good friends at Gundam MAD to have a section of the event entirely dedicated to Gundam; “The Gundam Wing”, if you will. 😉

The Gundam Wing will be its own self-contained area within the TFNation event; it’ll be open the entire weekend of the event, and entry is free as part of your ticket to TF Nation – more on that in a moment!

If you’ve been to events where our friends Gundam MAD have exhibited before you’ll know they are the premiere supplier of Gundam model kits and more in the UK! This event will be no different as they’ll have a huge dedicated sales area to meet your Gundam needs. If you’re a Gunpla enthusiast, or perhaps looking to delve into the world of model kits for the first time, the massive selection – and we’re not joking; there’ll be literally hundreds available – will be the perfect place to add to or start your collection. There’ll even be some introductory panels at the event to help you make the perfect choice and give you some great advice too! You’ll also find Gundam merchandise available to purchase, plus the opportunity to see experienced Gunpla fans do speed builds and show off their wares.

Last but not least, you’ll be able to start building or adding to your existing Gundam Blu-ray collection as you’ll be able to pick up the last remaining copies of some titles that have been out-of-print, along with the latest and (in some cases) upcoming releases ahead of their general retail dates! Some of these titles might even be ones we’ll be listing below in a few moments.

If you want to attend TFNation, we’ve got a special offer for you as you can save 25% off your entry price! To take advantage of this, you need to visit the link below, and enter the promo code JTBD6JZQ on the Your Details page of the registration form:

Register for TF Nation 2019

It’s that simple… we hope to see some of you there! Now with that being said, let’s now talk about what we have in the pipeline for Gundam releases.

MOBILE SUIT GUNDAM: CHAR’S COUNTER ATTACK

That’s right! The concluding story of the U.C. (Universal Century) story that started in the original Mobile Suit Gundam series / movie trilogy and that continued through Zeta Gundam and Gundam ZZ (Double Zeta) will finally be seeing the very popular film Mobile Suit Gundam: Char’s Counter Attack come to Blu-ray for the first time ever in the United Kingdom!  It’ll be arriving in the form of a Limited Collector’s Edition Blu-ray set that will sit nicely next to the rest of your Gundam Collection. Here’s a first peek at what it will look like…

Char's Counter Attack - Blu-ray Collector's Ed. set coming 29th July 2019
Char’s Counter Attack – Blu-ray Collector’s Ed. set coming 29th July 2019

The set will be coming packed in a rigid case, and inside you’ll find an Amaray case holding the Blu-ray disc. Additionally there will also be a poster measuring at 34cm x 40 cm, and art cards depicting some of the fantastic artwork created for this film.

The film itself will be presented in not only its original Japanese audio with English subtitles, but also with the English dub that was created for the film too. Additionally on the disc there will be some Japanese trailers and a promotional video for the film.

This release has an SRP of £34.99 and will be released on 29th July 2019.

You’ll be able to order this soon from retailers, but we’re taking pre-orders for this at our AllTheAnime.com online store from today (21st June 2019) at a very special Early Bird price! If you want to get more of a feel for the film, check out a trailer for below:

AllTheAnime.com Exclusive Bonus Item with Gundam Pre-orders!

If you’re planning to pre-order Char’s Counter Attack (or any of our upcoming Gundam releases for that matter) from our AllTheAnime online store, we’ve got a very cool bonus item for you (while stock lasts).

We’ve created a limited quantity of special keychains that have been crafted to celebrate the 40th Anniversary of Mobile Suit Gundam this year! There are two designs – one for the Earth Federation and one for Zeon – and what we’ll be doing is giving every person who places an order for a qualifying product one of these keychains (which will be randomly selected) to be included in your parcel when you receive it!

gundam keychains

The keychains are each made of metal, with the emblems on both the front and back being embossed. The back of each keychain (the side with the Gundam 40th Anniversary emblem) has a sandblasted finish too. The Earth Federation keychain (left) is roughly 50mm high x 40mm wide, while the Zeon keychain (right) is approximately 50mm high x 40mm wide.

It’s a cool limited edition bonus that we’re delighted to be able include! But as we noted, quantities are limited, and we also need to stress now that although there are two designs, you cannot choose which keychain you will receive. There will ultimately be one randomly selected keychain included in the parcel for each order placed that includes a pre-order on a Gundam title – in other words, keychains are allocated per order, not per-Gundam product ordered.

You can order Char’s Counter Attack and some of our Standard Edition re-releases of Gundam titles starting this Friday at our AllTheAnime.com online shop right now, so don’t miss out and order today to ensure you get hold of these great titles, and this cracking bonus item! Head on down to the bottom of this post to find all the pre-order links you need.

MOBILE SUIT GUNDAM WING
coming to blu-ray

ANI8018 BRANI9318 GundamWing-p1_collector_boxtype3D_frontIt’s easily been one of, if not the, most requested Gundam titles people have been wanting us to bring to Blu-ray and we’re delighted to say Mobile Suit Gundam Wing will be getting released this year on Blu-ray for the first time in the UK, starting in late August/early September time!

The series will be released over two parts, with Part 1 set to arrive in August/September (exact date TBC at time of writing) and Part 2 arriving during the fourth quarter of the year – tentatively scheduled for October. The SRP of each part will be £59.99.

Part 1 of Gundam Wing will follow in our traditional release for a two part Gundam series in that it will come with a box to store both Part 1 and Part 2* (*sold separately). Part 2 will come with an art book that fits in nicely next to the Amaray cases when put inside the box.

Part 1 will contain episodes 1-25 of the series, presented with English and original Japanese with English subtitle viewing options. Part 2 will have the remainder of the series, episodes 26-49 with the same language viewing options too.

ANI8018 BRANI9318 GundamWing-p1_collector_boxtype3D_backWe also want to take a moment to note that we will be releasing the follow up film, Mobile Suit Gundam Wing: Endless Waltz, as well! This will be coming during the fourth quarter of the year. (Exact date TBC at time of writing) That release will include both the movie and OVA versions of Endless Waltz, presented with English and original Japanese with English subtitle viewing options, plus Gundam Wing: Operation Meteor which has never been released in the UK before! (It’s worth noting that Operation Meteor has never been dubbed into English, so it’s in Japanese with English subtitles only.) The SRP of Endless Waltz upon its release is £34.99.

We are also planning to release a complete Gundam Wing collection that will encompass the series and Endless Waltz later this year as well! But we do want to stress now that we appreciate that some of you won’t want to wait to buy the series but will still want to have the complete collection. You guys know we’re ultimately big anime (let alone Gundam fans) too, so we always have something in mind for this to be possible. So have no fear we’ve already got a plan in place to make sure those of you in this scenario are accommodated via an exclusive opportunity at our AllTheAnime online store nearer the time of release. (More details will be forthcoming nearer the time.)

GUNDAM THUNDERBOLT CONTINUES

Our release of the Mobile Suit Gundam Thunderbolt: December Sky Blu-ray Collector’s Edition set late last year sold like hot cakes; it was pretty much out of print since day one, although some units are still available from select retailers (including Amazon UK). But today we’re happy to say that a standard edition Blu-ray of Gundam Thunderbolt December Sky will be coming on 12th August 2019!

Alongside this, a lot of you are likely wondering when you can expect the next chapter in this story, Gundam Thunderbolt Bandit Flower, to make an appearance. We’re happy to say that a Blu-ray Collector’s Edition set will be arriving in late August/early September (exact date TBC at time of writing) – stay tuned as we hope to have a first look at this set for you very soon!

Following in the same mould as the December Sky Collector’s Edition release, we can confirm that our Bandit Flower Collector’s Edition will come packed in a rigid case with an Amaray inside housing the Blu-ray disc. Also inside the rigid case will be an A3 sized poster and art cards showing some of the art from this very unique part of the Gundam franchise.

MOBILE SUIT GUNDAM TRILOGY
RETURNS to blu-ray

A few years ago we released a very limited collection that was exclusive to our AllTheAnime online store that comprised the three compilation films of the original Mobile Suit Gundam story into one set. It’s a set that has been sought after by collectors and fans alike, but has been out of print for a long time now. We’re delighted to say that we’re now able to re-release this collection of films, and give it a trade wide release too, in the form of a standard edition Blu-ray collection.

It’s going to be all three films (spread over three discs as per the previous release) inside a single Amaray. As was the case with the original release, the films are in Japanese with English subtitles only but will include both the original theatrical 2.0 audio and the later “Special Edition” 5.1 audio version audio for all three films.

If you’ve been looking to jump into Gundam for the first time, these films are a great way to do so!

The standard edition Blu-ray of Mobile Suit Gundam Trilogy will be getting released on 29th July 2019. Expect to see listings for this appearing on retailer sites in the coming weeks, and we’ll also be showing you the final packaging design for the release in due course. We’re taking pre-orders for this title right now, and you can find the buy link at the bottom of this post.

ZETA GUNDAM AND GUNDAM ZZ
BACK ON BLU-RAY!

As we’re very much on the train of making sure as much Gundam is available as possible for you to watch this summer if you haven’t already, after watching the Gundam Movie Trilogy you’ll then need to see the next chapters of the Universal Century story in the form of Mobile Suit Zeta Gundam and Gundam ZZ (aka, Gundam Double Zeta.)

Both have received collector’s edition releases before, but we fully appreciate some volumes of these have become quite hard to get hold of, due to them going out-of-print. So we’re very happy to say that standard edition Blu-ray of both volumes of these series will be getting released over the coming months!

Zeta Gundam Part 1 will arrive on 29th July, with pre-orders opening on our AllTheAnime.com store today (find the buy link at the bottom of this post), with Part 2 set to be available around late August/early September. (Exact date TBC at time of writing.)

And Gundam ZZ Part 1 will be coming in late September, with Part 2 set to follow during October/November time. (Again, exact dates are TBC at time of writing.)

GUNDAM ORIGIN I-IV
RETURNS TO BLU-RAY

And finally another Gundam release that flew off the shelves and became out-of-print in double-quick time was Mobile Suit Gundam The Origin I-IV: The Chronicle of Char and Sayla. We’re happy to say that a standard edition Blu-ray of this release collection will be coming in September (exact date TBC at time of writing.)

GUNDAM EARLY BIRD DEALS

Now, here we are at the part you’ve been waiting for… or did you just skip straight to this bit? It’s okay, we won’t judge you.

As we’ve noted throughout this article, you can pre-order some of the titles we’ve been showing off at Early Bird prices right now, so between now at midnight on Thursday night (27th June) you can pre-order our Char’s Counter Attack Collector’s Edition Blu-ray, as well as Standard Edition Blu-rays of the Mobile Suit Gundam Movie Trilogy and Mobile Suit Zeta Gundam Part 1, at special prices. Oh, and don’t forget that free bonus key chain we’re offering strictly while stocks last to sweeten the deal! You can find all three deals below, just ready and waiting for your attention…

One more additional note for you: don’t worry, we’ve not forgotten about Gundam 00. This title is going to be released during the fourth quarter of the year, with information on this to be presented from us closer to to that time frame once it’s all finalised. As you can see above, we’ve got a a great road map of new Gundam releases for both fans who have been very patient in waiting for more to add to their collection, and for fans who are wanting to jump on board and start their collections.

Signing out~! (for now…)

Jeremy and Andy
