Back in early 2013 it was announced that we (Anime Limited) had acquired the rights to the film 009 Re:Cyborg. It has been a long wait since that time but today we are delighted to show what you can expect when our UK Limited Edition Blu-ray/DVD set is released in just over a week on Monday 14th September.
WHERE CAN I BUY IT?
We can confirm that on day of release HMV branches across the UK will be stocking this. Of course you’ll also be able to order it from the likes of Amazon UK and other online retailers on day of release as well.
WHAT IS 009 Re:Cyborg ABOUT?
Well before we go any further, check out the trailer below.
An exciting feature length reboot of CYBORG 009, Shotaro Ishinomori’s influential 1960s sci-fi/adventure manga series, 009 RE: CYBORG is produced by Production I.G. (GHOST IN THE SHELL) and directed by Kenji Kamiyama – series director for GHOST IN THE SHELL: STAND ALONE COMPLEX and EDEN OF THE EAST.
In 1964, nine regular humans from different parts of the world were abducted by an evil organization and transformed into cyborgs with astounding powers for the purpose of being used as weapons. However, the cyborgs turned against their creators and started a long fight in the name of justice. Once they had helped to finally restore peace, they eventually disappeared from the pages of history.
It is now 2013. Skyscrapers across the world are being hit by suicide bombers with no apparent connection. The nine heroes have gathered once again to fight against this faceless menace. They appear untouched by time, but society around them has changed dramatically, along with the very idea of the “justice” they used to believe in… What is their role in the world now? And what is lying behind the rash of skyscraper bombings that is terrorizing all nations across the Earth? The vital clue lies in the skeleton of a seemingly impossible creature. As cities are consumed by the apocalypse, could it really be an act of God?
If you haven’t already we also encourage you watch this segment from a Q&A session with Director, Kenji Kamiyama. In this video he talks about the popularity of the franchise in Japan.
